Fall Classes for Teens: Art and Music

Pencils
 
Portfolio Development

12-18 yrs/$85 + $10 Materials Fee
For students who wish to apply for GT art or college art programs or to develop a body of work for their own satisfaction.  Professional artist and instructor Cher Compton will focus on drawing from life using charcoal and other mediums.
     
Visual Art Workshop

Students will learn how to develop a theme visually and learn about techniques and materials.  Students interested in submitting work for the PTA Reflections come to create art inspired by this year's theme, "Together We Can".  Students who have already done work related to the theme are encouraged to bring it with them to class for a critique.'
 
Intro to Piano

11-14 yrs/$99 + $15 materials fee
Learn to play the piano in this introductory class.  Play a variety of musical styles to gain confident and develop musical skills.  Participants will learn and practice on their own keyboard. 
 

Fall Classes for Teens: Dance

Choreography Workshop with Jessica McElvaney

11-17 yrs/$65
For students with at least one year of dance experience.  Students will learn techniques to generate movement as well as how to structure a dance.  Each participant will be guided towards creating an original solo that will be incorporated into an informal concert at the end of the workshop.  
 
Teen Bollywood Dance

Trained in Indian classical dance, instructor Jaya Mathur will introduce you to this energetic dance style that originated in Indian films. Techniques include hand, feet and body movements and an overall sense of rhythm.  
 
Teen Jazz Dance

Dancers will work on flexibility, strength and performance quality while developing and improving jazz dance technique.  Class will cover a range of jazz dance styles including Broadway, lyrical, hip hop and contemporary.

Cooking Techniques for Teens

Become familiar with some of the basic cooking techniques that make all cooking easier!  We will learn some knife skills and the difference between cooking techniques!  We will fix a first class meal in the process!  Classes will include take home recipes
 
Get Styled with Shawnté: Hairstyle How-to's

Consult with a professional cosmetologist to learn about the latest styles and hair trends for teens.  Get hands-on experience using mannequins learning proper techniques and simple styles such as blow-drying, flat ironing, up-dos and braiding. Show off your new skills and creative abilities in a mini-hair show during the final class.  Students will also gain beneficial tips on confidence and positive self image.  Fee includes your own mannequin to keep for continued practice at home.
 
Social Etiquette & Communication Skills Express

Designed for the student with a busy schedule, this 2 hour class emphasizes the importance of having good manners in all aspects of life. Topics include initial impressions, dress for success, conversation and listening, etiquette in public, phone and email etiquette.

Middle School/High School Musical Theatre: Oliver

Drama Learning Center/Grades 6-12/$300
Learn acting, singing, and dancing as they work together as part of a theatrical team to put on a performance of Oliver!  Participants will also develop skills in improvisation, pantomime, character emotion and more.  Dress rehearsals Nov 15-19 5:00-8:30pm.  Performances Sat Nov. 20 at 7pm, Sun Nov 21st at 3pm.
 
Musical Theater Workshop

This class is designed for teens interested in strengthening their musical theatre skills. Students receive both group and individual coaching in acting, singing and dance which will culminate in a performance event.
